Earlier this year, Beijing City International School
(BCIS) announced that they had successfully obtained Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification to the Gold standard.
This makes BCIS’ early childhood ed centre’s the first pre-school facility in town to receive this certification. The centre’s LEED certification was made absolutely official in a ceremony held in an on-campus community space on February 24.
A group of kindergarten students worked as hosts, as well as put on singing performances for attendees including the BCIS educational leadership team, chairman of the YueCheng education board of trustees, Chen Lixiang and other members of the school community.
LEED consultant, Ms Li, was also present for the ceremony and shared her thoughts on the significance of the LEED certification. According to Li, ‘schools are the cultivating grounds for future generations and so where better to achieve LEED status than at a place that will inspire the young to work for the betterment of the environment and benefit of the whole world.’
BCIS expressed their thanks for Ms Li’s kind words for presenting the certificate. It’s the school’s hope that their LEED certification inspires other schools and organisations to pursue eco-friendly practices and to work together for a shared commitment to the environment.
