Your guide to kid-friendly acitivites around Beijing's most popular art district

A trip to an art district doesn't necessarily have to be boring for kids anymore. At 798, there are a variety of exhibitions and activities that serve not only to entertain the kids, but to give them a closer connection to art itself. Interactive spaces, classes, workshops and more are available around the popular art district, and here are ten to check out.

Wandering in Space

The galaxy is now within our reach at Wandering in Space's ongoing exhibition. There are seven rooms in total, each one with a different feature but all still very much a captivating sight. There are little cushion cum rocks in some of the rooms where families can sit and enjoy the universe floating around them. For those with very young kids, consider watching a video or two of the universe before heading here in case kids find the special effects quite frightening.

Shake 'Moo Moo'

It's KOL fever at Moo where you and the kids can take as many pictures as you want using the backdrops available. For those who like to pose with animals, head straight to the second floor where kids can use props and pretend to be a panther or hide amongst the many giraffes.

Art+798 International art education centre

Bookworms children will love this cozy little space located just by the main entrance of the art district. Rows and rows of books are displayed around the main room for kids to pick up and read (or be read to) and are grouped based on their popularity amongst kids. There are also smaller rooms where Art+798 hold their workshops that include crafts, dance activities and more. Workshop prices vary but a full-day trip to the library to read any of their books cost 88RMB per day.

Hello! My Ocean (海洋馆)

Located on the second floor of 798's 3D museum, Hello! My Ocean is an indoor 3D aquarium where kids will experience the basic sights and sounds of what goes on in an ocean via wall projections and various activities around the hall. One part of the museum also plays showcases creative exhibits that don't necessarily have anything to do with life in the ocean.

Cave Discovery Centre

Have an absolutely smashing experience letting the kids destroy whatever they want here at Smash, the only place where you can freely break stuff and not get scolded for it. For kids 12 and up, but kids 12-16 years old will need to be accompanied by their guardians.

Snug Time (慢时光)

While kids are unleashing their fury and power at Smash, the creative space next door invites makers young and old to create new items from their collection. Kids ten and up can visit the maker space and create a variety of items such as jewelry, crafts, paintings and more using the materials available around the shop cum art space.

Lucy's Warehouse (娃娃仓)

Lucy's Warehouse may not host any kid-friendly activities, but it's home to many pre-loved items looking for a new home that families can check out. The shop is China's first consignment centre mainly for kids' items where parents can consign their pre-loved items. Follow their Wechat account (lovewawacang) to sign up or for more information.
