Step 1. Find the 'Wallet' icon

To be honest, this was the step we had the most difficulty with. As Android V6.2 users, the Wallet option didn't automatically show up. If you're having the same problem, find out how to add the Wallet here

Anyway, we digress. The Wallet is normally located under 'Me', the far-right button on main menu bar at the bottom of the screen.

Step 2. Click on the 'Bank Card' icon to link your bank account

Step 3. Enter your card number

Step 4. Enter your name (not as easy as it sounds)

Step 4. Enter your name (not as easy as it sounds)

This is the problematic point for most foreigners. You need to enter your name exactly as it appears on the account in your bank's records or the whole process just falls apart. This means order (given name, then last name; or last name, then given name) and spacing. As inputting non-character names is not the norm for bank tellers, your account may have a somewhat odd record of your name on your account. Don't assume it's LASTNAME GIVENNAME(S). If you're uncertain, either call/visit your bank or check copies of the paperwork from when you first opened your account.

Step 7. Enter your phone number

It has to be the phone number which the bank has on file – or, again, it's game over. Make sure the bank has your current number in its records. Press next.

Step 8. Wait for the verification code

Step 8. Wait for the verification code

This is why it really needs to be your current number...

Step 9. Decipher the verification code

Step 9. Decipher the verification code

The code inthe text message that you need to input is the first one and should be six-digits long. Enter the code and press next.

Step 10. Choose a password

This is the password you will need to use for all future transactions, so make it as secure and memorable as possible.

Finally, get spending

Once you've set your password, you'll be able to go ahead and spend all your hard-earned cash using WeChat wallet. You can make transfer payments to friends, top up your phone, pay for taxis and utility bills and much, much more just by pressing a button and, best of all, people can pay you – don't spend it all at once.
